Grade 1 Story Weavers: A Tale Woven One Line at a Time
Long ago, an old man named Ram lived with his family on a hill. He earned his living by cutting wood in the forest.
One morning, Ram saw a thin dog eating scraps beside the road. Feeling sorry for the animal, he shared some of his own lunch. Grateful, the dog began to follow him.
When Ram reached home, he was surprised to see the dog still at his heels. Just then he spotted a hungry wolf creeping nearby. Worried that the wolf might hurt the dog, Ram hurried the dog inside and hid him in a safe corner.
Moments later, a lion appeared out of the trees. The lion attacked the wolf and carried it away, saving the dog without even knowing it.
The next day Ram went back to the forest and took the dog along for company. Deep among the tall trees, Ram lost track of which way to go. While he was trying to figure out the path, another old man came toward him. This stranger was a thief. He knocked Ram out and ran off.
The loyal dog dashed all the way home, barking for help. Hearing the noise, Ram’s family understood something was wrong. They followed the dog into the forest, found Ram, and brought him safely home.
From that day on, the dog was no longer a stray. He became a beloved member of Ram’s family—brave, loyal, and always remembered as the dog who saved the old man’s life.
